The forged Thiers created by Gilles REYNEWAETER with forged spring and "mouche" (or top bolster plate), representes the "caravelle" the ship emblem of the City of THIERS since 1660. In fact, the city of Thiers was a great merchant city, and other than cutlery, Thiers, made paper, sheets, "le buse", horn and firewood for the city of PARIS, and also was one of those special cities who had the right to manufacture playing cards. To transport ail these goods it was necessary to have a cheap manner of transport. The "caravelle" was such, a boat, able to go up the systern of locks and canais until Paris and throughout Europe.
